Childhood and adolescence can be filled with challenges—from anxiety and school stress to ADHD, emotional regulation, social difficulties, and major life changes. Sometimes children and teens need extra support to understand their feelings, build healthy coping skills, and navigate life's challenges with confidence.
At Laird Family Counseling, I provide compassionate therapy for children (ages 6+) and teens in Phoenixville, PA, as well as secure telehealth services throughout Pennsylvania. I work collaboratively with both young people and their caregivers to foster emotional growth, strengthen relationships, and support meaningful, lasting change.
Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem, friendships, emotional regulation, grief, or family transitions, therapy offers a safe and supportive place to help them thrive.
You don't have to navigate these challenges alone. Together, we can help your child develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed at home, in school, and in life.
Life isn't always easy for children and teens. While it's normal for young people to experience ups and downs, ongoing emotional or behavioral challenges can begin to affect their relationships, confidence, academic success, and overall well-being.
Your child or teen may benefit from therapy if they're experiencing:
Therapy provides a safe, supportive environment where children and teens can better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, strengthen problem-solving skills, and build confidence.
Parents are an important part of the therapeutic process. I work collaboratively with caregivers to support progress at home while helping children and teens develop the skills they need to thrive.
Children and teens often express emotions differently than adults. Behavioral changes, school struggles, withdrawal, anxiety, or emotional outbursts are often ways of communicating that something deeper is going on. My goal is to help young people better understand their feelings while building the confidence and skills they need to navigate life's challenges.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), I view children within the context of their families, relationships, and environments. Rather than focusing only on behaviors or symptoms, I work to understand the underlying experiences contributing to your child's struggles and help create meaningful, lasting change.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and developmentally appropriate. Depending on your child's age and needs, sessions may include conversation, creative activities, play-based interventions, or skill-building exercises that encourage emotional awareness, healthy coping, problem-solving, and resilience.
Parents are an essential part of the therapeutic process. I regularly collaborate with caregivers to share insights, discuss progress, and provide practical strategies that support growth at home. When appropriate and with your permission, I can also collaborate with schools or other professionals to help create consistent support across environments.
Whether your child is navigating anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation challenges, friendship difficulties, grief, or significant life transitions, therapy provides a safe, supportive space where they can feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow.

The first session is an opportunity to learn about your child, your family's concerns, and the goals you hope to achieve through therapy. Depending on your child's age, part of the session may be spent with parents, part with your child, or together as a family. This allows me to better understand everyone's perspective while helping your child feel comfortable and supported.

Children and teens often need time to develop trust before opening up. As therapy progresses, we'll work together to build emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, improve communication, and develop practical strategies for managing challenges at home, at school, and in relationships. Sessions are tailored to your child's developmental level and individual needs.

If you're considering therapy for your child or teen, you may be noticing...
"My child isn't acting like themselves anymore."
Or perhaps...
"My teen used to talk to me, but now they seem withdrawn or overwhelmed."
You may have found yourself wondering...
"I'm doing everything I can, but I'm not sure how to help anymore."
Maybe your child is struggling with anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, school stress, friendships, low self-esteem, or a recent life change. Perhaps mornings have become a battle, emotions seem bigger than usual, or your family feels caught in the same patterns over and over.

Seeking therapy isn't a sign that you've failed as a parent—it's a step toward helping your child build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to thrive.
